UPCOMING PLAYS, FESTIVALS & WORKSHOPS:

Up Coming Plays: TUNE UP AND SIGN UP!!

Texas Independence Day Celebration and Chili Cook-off: Sun, Feb 24; 2:00 – 5:00; Pioneer Memorial Log House Museum, 1510 N McGregor, Hermann Park. I hear you get to sample some of that chili if you dare. Dress is period. Suzanne Campling will be leading and will provide the set list. Her number is 832-334-3915.

***As to period dress: please contact either Suzanne Campling ,Marianne Drabek or Gaye Goebel for some ideas, or even some parts you may borrow to put together an outfit. Truth is, we all started with whatever we had and could borrow and built from there, so, please don't sit out a play because you don't presently own an outfit, give one of us a call and we'll help you get something put together that will work just fine:)***

Texas Independence Day: Sat and Sun, Mar 1-2; 10:00 – 5:00 with breaks; Washington on the Brazos State Historical Site located between Navasota and Brenham. Come help celebrate the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Period dress, of course. Marianne Drabek will lead on Saturday and William Damewood will lead on Sunday.

Independence Historical Society; Sun, Mar 16 and Sun, Apr 13; 12:00-5:00;

Located in Independence, Texas at the old Baylor University site. We will play at the dog-trot cabin there. Expect to see fields of wildflowers all around. Period dress is preferred. It would be a good idea to bring a chair or stool. Mike Goebel will be leading March 16 and William Damewood will be leading April 13. We will provide respective set lists. http:/www.independencetx.com has some useful information including driving directions.

The Baytown Historical Preservation Association is co-hosting a dedication and reception for an official Texas Historical Marker for the Confederate Naval Works on Goose Creek at the Bayland Park in Baytown. The dedication/reception is Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. This particular play happens to conflict with the tail end of Palestine festival, so if you aren't going to Old Pal, please sign up for this play! Suzanne Campling leading, period dress (since this is a bit of a "fancy affair", we'll put on our best:). We will play a bit before the ceremony and then during the reception after.

There will be plenty of finger foods to eat at the reception.  The dedication and reception will both be outdoors at the park.  John Britt, a teacher and historian at Lee College , will be the emcee.  So far we have the mayor of Baytown and Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia as speakers along with spokespersons from the Harris County Historical Commission and Bayer (who donated the money for the marker).

Katy ISD Folk Life Festival; Sat, Apr 5, 9:00-5:00; Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center; 6301 S Stadium Lane, Katy. We may be sharing some of this time with the Brazos Bottoms Dulcimer group. Lunch by McDonalds will be provided. Meal tickets are given out early in the day to a group representative. Marianne Drabek has volunteered to be play leader. Dress is pioneer, but we’ve done jeans there and that has been OK. They generally have some chairs, but you might prefer to bring your own seating.

McDade Heritage Day: We are officially signed up to play at the 135 year celebration of the famous shoot out in McDade, TX – on October 11, 2008. McDade is close to Austin on US 290. So, mark your planners.

Please email William Damewood if you would like to invite NHCDS to play for YOUR event!

(New Play Director as of June 2006)
